About Us

VoIP-Facts.net: The Blog is a part of and meant to compliment the web site VoIP-Facts.net.

Our goal is to explore extensively the various aspects of Voice over IP Telephony as it relates to the residential consumer, as well as small and medium size businesses.

The adoption of VoIP in the residential community has grown to 2.9 million in 2006, up from 2.2 million the previous year, and is expected to increase as more households gain access to high speed Internet connections. In the business community, VoIP has already caught hold and is saving many of small and medium sized companies millions in telecommunications costs.

My job here is research and analysis, and my hope is to build an interactive forum on current news and events, as well as new products and provider reviews as they relate to Voice over IP Telephony.

I hope you will join us as we watch the next Telecommunications Revolution unfold.  We welcome your comments and criticisms, and especially any new insight you may have on VoIP.

  5. My name is Emily and I am writing to you on behalf of the German VoIP company, snom technology, AG.

snom technology AG, developer and manufacturer of VoIP telephones, today announced that the company’s VoIP phone portfolio achieved the highest “green” standard. I have included details about this announcment below. Thank you very much for your consideration.

snom VoIP Phones Receive Top Green Rating in Recent Technology Test

Engineers at FH Frankfurt give snom phones highest green VoIP rating for energy efficiency over VoIP competitors

Berlin, Germany and North Andover, Mass. (March 4, 2009) – snom technology AG, developer and manufacturer of Voice-over-IP (VoIP) telephones, announced today that the company’s VoIP phone portfolio achieved the highest “green” standard in a recent test against VoIP handset competitors. snom’s SIP based phones received top marks for being the most energy efficient in head-to-head testing against six other VoIP competitors in a recent lab study conducted by the Research Group for Telecommunication Networks at the Frankfurt Main University of Applied Sciences (FH Frankfurt) in Germany.

Research assistants and engineers at FH Frankfurt tested a total of 23 VoIP phones by seven well-known manufacturers over a three-month period. In every use scenario investigated – idle mode, conversation, idle mode after a conversation, and three-way conference – snom phones had the lowest power consumption in each comparable product class. Companies using snom products are not only saving electricity costs, but are also contributing towards the sustainable use of the earth’s energy resources and keeping with today’s green IT strategy.

“When developing our telephones we have always attached a great importance on implementing sophisticated technology in an energy-efficient manner,” said Dusan Aleksis, head of hardware development at snom. “Keeping power consumption as low as possible has always been one of our most important goals in the development of snom phones.”

The readings taken by the FH Frankfurt research group show that VoIP phones with large illuminated displays generally consume the most power. The display illumination on all of snom’s products is designed to automatically switch off 30 seconds after the phone conversation has ended. In standby mode, the snom 370 uses up to 3.5 watts less than comparable telephones by other manufacturers. To create realistic usage conditions for the different readings, the FH Frankfurt tested the VoIP phone on two different switches: the ALL8084, an eight-port switch 10/100 Mbit half/full duplex, four of these ports with automatic PoE Classification Recognition, and the ALL8089, an unmanaged layer-2 switch with eight Fast Ethernet ports and maximum PoE support on all ports. To obtain additional results, depending on the efficiency of the utilization, the test did not include the changing consumption of the switches. The test engineers subtracted mean values to allow for the power consumption of the switches.
