The Nokia E65
Designed with the mobile professional in mind, the Nokia E65 is a slim slider phone that features quick and easy access to frequently used applications from the One Touch keys on the front cover. Users can access their contact list, initiate conference calls, mute and unmute calls, and the My Own key allows the user quick access to an application of their choice. Slide the handset open to access the keypad for texting and making calls manually.
As a hands free device, the Nokia E65 employs voice recognition capabilities that allow you to use voice commands for dialing, accessing profiles, short cuts, and locking the keypad. It also has an integrated voice recorder to capture important calls and conversations, and a built speaker phone.
The E65 cell phone uses the quad band EGSM frequencies, and data transfers using the high speed EDGE network, and WCDMA 2100, or 3G.
Integrated WLAN Capabilities
One of the nice business features of the Nokia E65 is its integration capabilities into the corporate PBX telephony system via the wireless LAN. E65 supports the WiFi 802.11b/g specifications with WPA and WPA2 security.
The Nokia E65 can be integrated with corporate telephony systems from Cisco and Alcatel through Nokia's Intellisync Call Connect, and the Avaya one-X Mobile Edition for Nokia, making the phone an extension of the PBX messaging system.
The incorporation of WLAN technology allows the user to keep in touch by cell phone when away, and to make cheaper VoIP calls through the corporate WLAN, or from WiFi hotspots, through a VoIP provider.
The active-matrix QVGA color display has support for up to 16 million colors, 240 x 320 pixel resolution, and controls for brightness and contrast.
Applications for Business and Pleasure
The Nokia E65 is built on the Symbian operating system S60 3rd Edition, and supports POP/IMAP, SMTP, and IMAP4 email with attachments and PDF viewing.
An instant messaging client is built in, as well as support for SMS with distribution lists, and a Multimedia Messaging Service for voice clips, video clips, text, and images. The handset also houses a 2 megapixel camera, and the keypad uses predictive text input technology.
All work and no play makes for a pretty boring smart phone, so Nokia also added support for video and audio streaming of 3GPP and Real Media, and a music and media player for the MP3 and AAC file formats.
The E65 has up to 50MB memory, with support for more via a MicroSD memory card, and can sync up with your computer through USB, infrared, Bluetooth, and WLAN.
The battery life (BP-5F) offers talk time up to 6 hours over GSM, 2.5 hours with WCDMA, and up to 3 hours using VoIP.
The Nokia E65 is a smart phone designed with the needs of businesses in mind.
With its WLAN and VoIP capabilities, it has become one of the early adaptors
of the Fixed Mobile Convergent concept. Expected to be available in the first
quarter of 2007, the E65 should retail for around $400.
